USS SLATER Set to Open April 4th
After another winter in Rensselaer, where volunteers continued restoration activities, USS SLATER has returned to her summer berth at the base of Madison Avenue on the Hudson River in Downtown Albany. This marks the beginning of SLATER?s 15th season in Albany and the 1st season as an officially-designated National Historic Landmark. Following a multi-year application process, USS SLATER received National Historic Landmark status just this March.

Hair
Hair May 3 - 13, 2012 'Hair' tells the story of Vietnam-era youths awkwardly but exuberantly creating their own rite of passage through the confusion around them. Among them are Claude and Berger; a pair of friends battling against Claude's draft notice, and Sheila, who is in love with both of them, but her politically-active lifestyle leaves her little time to act on her feelings. Ultimately, Claude decides that the hippie life isn't for him and goes to Vietnam.

Albany History Fair
2012 marks the 200th Anniversary of the War of 1812 and Historic Cherry Hill's second generation owner, Solomon Van Rensselaer, played a prominent role in the conflict. His military career and many of his possessions will be featured at the fair.

Biennial exhibition - Stitching Across Time
The New York Capital District Chapter of the Embroiderer's Guild of America presents its biennial exhibition, "Stitching Across Time," May 17-20, 2012 at the Pruyn House, 207 Old Niskayuna Rd., Latham, NY 12110-4936 (near Albany, NY). The exhibit celebrates our 45th anniversary as a guild chapter. An ecletic mix of needlework will be displayed from historic embroidery techniques such as Naversom and Hardanger to modern beadwork, crazy quilting and fiber arts.

The Wolfe Tones in Concert
The Irish folk legends, The Wolfe Tones, will appear in concert at the Capital District Irish-American Center (Albany AOH), 375 Ontario Street, at 8 p.m. on Friday, June 29. Currently celebrating 49 years on the road, these legendary Dublin balladeers continue to be one of Ireland's biggest box office attractions, selling out at prestigious venues across Ireland, the UK, mainland Europe and the U.S. On June 29, the Pub and the kitchen will open at 5 p.m. The doors to the main hall open at 6 p.m. Proceeds from the concert benefit the Irish American Heritage Museum, 370 Broadway. The evening is also the Father Jim Hayes Memorial Reunion. Father Hayes was responsible for bringing The Wolfe Tones to Albany for many years.

Join the Rensselaer County Historical Society (RCHS) on a War of 1812 inspired bus trip to Plattsburgh, NY and Ottawa, Canada on Thursday, July 26?Saturday, July 28, 2012. The Tugboat Roundup
The Waterford Tugboat Roundup began in 1999 as a way to preserve and promote the maritime industrial heritage of the New York State Canal System and other adjoining inland waterways. The tugboat history of the region, and particularly Waterford, is especially rich. For most of the 20th century, tugboats lined the shores here, whether waiting to lock up through the magnificent ?Flight? or competing for some day work with a local company.

Head of the Hudson Regatta 26th Annual
The regatta is both ARC's coveted home regatta as well as the focal point for our fall fundraising drive. Founded in 1985, the Albany Rowing Center, located on the Hudson River in downtown Albany, is committed to providing recreational and competitive rowing opportunities for both youth and adults. We use membership dues and equipment fees to meet operational expenses and coaching salaries. We rely on fundraising activities and sponsorships to cover the costs of the events that we host as well as to contribute toward special equipment needs such as new oars or boats. The Albany Rowing Center is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
