All-Hallow E'en Art Path

During the month of October, downtown Albany will transform into an autumn wonderland with fall-themed window displays at several businesses. Explore this art path any time of day and enjoy everything from paintings to sculptures encapsulating all-things autumn.

Drag Me to Nine Pin: Costume Contest

New York State Capitol Hauntings Tour

Who is the phantom nightwatchman who still makes his eerie, evening rounds? Family Tour

Looking for a family-friendly, frugal event during this day off from school? Join Discover Albany and the Albany Center Gallery for an exploration of the All-Hallow E'en Art Path! On this adventure, young art explorers will be asked to search for clues in the artwork and will learn facts about Albany's history and light, local ghost stories. The journey will end at Albany Center Gallery with snacks and coloring.

Stories and Spirits at the Shaker Cemetery

Shaker Heritage Society Cemetery

The Shakers never saw the spirit world as frightening, instead they embraced visions, dreams, and communication with those who have left the realm of the living. The Shaker Cemetery is a beautiful burial site for a range of remarkable figures who lived in the 18th and 19th century. Join the Shaker Heritage staff for a low-cost cemetery tour and learn some of the stories of the Shakers.

Historic Cherry Hill

Travel back in time at this historic site and experience a magic-lantern show straight from the late 1700's. Elliot and Schlemowitz's Phantasmagoria draws inspiration from Fantasmagorie shows featuring a rear projected image and magic lanterns moved to give the illusion of ghosts, goblins, and other frightening creatures floating in air towards and creeping towards audience members.

Cider Monster Mash

The Cider Monster Mash, formerly-known as the pressing party, is usually a smash hit at Nine Pin. Enjoy hands-on experience pressing apples which will be used to craft the cidery's signature Cider Monster '23. While enjoying the release of the Cider Monster '22, take part in fall games like apple stacking and a donut on a string challenge. The Cider Monster Mash is a low-cost event for the whole family!

In Our Own Voices Halloween Unity House Ball

Witness the very first Halloween House Ball in Albany! This event calls upon 1980s ballroom culture where POC LGBTQ+ youth participated in competitive dance, lip-syncing, and runway walks. 

The house ball brings a modern twist to the 1904 & 1905 All-Hallow E'en Festival. During the original festival a Halloween Queen Titania was crowned. At the House Ball, a pageant participator will be chosen as a winner and named as an ambassador. The ambassador will serve as a leader in our community and advocate for the health and wellness of LGBTQ+ POC throughout the region.

Hallowe'en Film Club - You Are Not My Mother

Irish American Heritage Museum

As the birthplace of Samhain, a festival that laid the roots for modern-day Halloween, Ireland is known for its dark folklore surrounding the holiday. Katie Dolan's horror film You Are Not My Mother taps into Irish folk history specifically of faery doppelgangers. In this film a young girl encounters her mother who had inexplicably disappeared a week before Halloween, but this figure is not the mother she remembers. Join the Irish American Heritage Museum for a showing of You Are Not My Mother on the night before Halloween!

Crossgates Malloween

Each year Crossgates Mall transforms into a Halloween dreamland complete with a mysterious costume contest and candy cauldrons at the doors of various stores. Stop by the Capital photo booth early to capture your Malloween memory. Photos are free and open for the first 100 families that drop by.

The Haunted Hall presented by The Cohoes Paranormal Society

This Halloween learn what spirits and paranormal creatures have been detected within the walls of this historic building famously known to be haunted by Eva Tanguay. For the past year, the Cohoes Paranormal Society have investigated this location; on the 31st they will share their findings followed by a screening of the iconic Paranormal Activity.
