  Imagine stepping into an elevator that takes you 156 feet below the Earth's surface. When the elevator stops, the doors open into a prehistoric underground cavern six million years in the making. As you exit into the Vestibule, your imagination takes hold.

  The air down here is different. A constant 52º Fahrenheit / 12º Celsius and 70-75% humidity, year round.

  As your eyes adjust to the underworld, shadows hide secrets in every crack and crevice. Sound echos off the walls and ceiling, reminding you of just how deep you have descended and what surprises await you in the underground wonder.

  You don't have to be a serious caver or spelunker to appreciate the geology of Howe Caverns. Your specially trained tour guide will help you negotiate the cave and learn about the magnificent limestone formations, the stalactites, stalagmites and flowstone, and the tremendous conservation effort underway to protect and preserve Howe Caverns for future generations.

  Since our opening in September of 2007, we have been focused on offering the downtown community a blend of coffees and espresso based drinks at reasonable prices. We've teamed up with Green Mountain Coffee Roasters to offer you a range of coffees including fair trade and organic style blends in eco-friendly containers.   Farm...

  The Regional Food Bank, in partnership with the Patroon Land Foundation, is developing a self sustaining educational farm that grows large quantities of high quality vegetables every year. The Farm supplies the Food Bank and its participating agencies with fresh produce while fulfilling the mission of the Patroon Land Farm.

  Volunteers...
  are vital to the Regional Food Bank. Every day, volunteers assist in our warehouse, on our farm, in our office, and in the community to ensure our operation continues to be most efficient.

  In 2010 6,814 different people donated 45,474 hours of work and helped make well over one million pounds of product available to our agencies! Thank you to everyone who has donated their time and talent to help. It truly makes a difference in the lives of hungry people.

  We are currently in need of volunteers in the following areas:

  • Repacking on our Warehouse Dock
  • Sorting in our Salvage Sorting Room
  • Working on the Patroon Land Farm (April through October)
  • Helping out with Office Work
  • Volunteering for the Holiday Hunger Appeal (November and December only)

• January 2011 MoM - Albany County Historical Society / Ten Broeck Mansion

  The 211-year-old Ten Broeck Mansion is the headquarters of the Albany County Historical Association (ACHA), a non-profit state-chartered organization that helps preserve and explain the history and heritage of New York's Capital Region. The association owns and operates the Ten Broeck Mansion -- designated by New York State as a "historic house museum" -- and its programs, and is active in the community as an educational entity and catalyst for historic preservation.
